From #11 to #1: How We Won Streetsville Restaurant Search for Layalina
A great restaurant nobody could find online. Six months later, Layalina owns the map pack for Middle Eastern food in Streetsville — and the phone hasn't stopped. Here is exactly what we changed.
When Layalina came to us, the food was already excellent. The problem was simpler and more painful: when someone in Streetsville searched “Middle Eastern restaurant near me,” Layalina sat on page two. Eleventh. Below aggregators, below competitors with worse food, below a listing that pointed to a closed location.
For a local restaurant, page two might as well be invisible. Roughly three quarters of “near me” diners never scroll past the first three map results. So we did not start with a redesign or a clever campaign. We started with the boring, decisive work of local SEO.
Where they were losing
Our audit found four leaks, and none of them were about the menu:
- An unverified, half-built Google Business Profile — wrong hours, no service categories, two photos, and a primary category of “Restaurant” instead of “Middle Eastern Restaurant.”
- Inconsistent NAP (name, address, phone) across Yelp, Facebook, and three directory sites — Google treats those mismatches as uncertainty, and uncertainty costs rank.
- No location signals on the website — the word “Streetsville” appeared exactly zero times, and there was no LocalBusiness structured data telling Google what and where the business was.
- Twelve reviews, none answered. Review volume and owner responses are a direct local ranking factor, and silence reads as a dormant business.
What we changed
Over the first eight weeks we rebuilt the foundation:
- Claimed and fully optimised the Business Profile — correct primary and secondary categories, real hours, the full menu, twenty-plus professional photos, and weekly posts. Categories alone moved the needle within two weeks.
- Cleaned the citations. One canonical NAP, pushed identically to the dozen directories that matter in the GTA, and killed the duplicate listing pointing at the old address.
- Built a real location page with Streetsville and Mississauga context, embedded map, structured
LocalBusiness+Menuschema, and fast-loading compressed imagery. - Set up a review engine — a one-tap QR card at the table and an after-meal text. We responded to every review, old and new, in the owner’s voice.
The result
Within six months Layalina moved from position eleven to the number-one map result for its core “Middle Eastern restaurant Streetsville” searches, and into the top three for the broader Mississauga terms. Reviews grew past one hundred. The owner’s own summary was shorter than any report we could write: “We’re busier on Tuesdays than we used to be on Fridays.”
None of this was a trick. It was a profile built properly, a website that finally told Google where the restaurant was, and a steady drumbeat of real reviews. That is what local SEO actually is — and it is the single highest-ROI thing most local businesses are leaving on the table.
